The Kingfisher is a dramatic bird, which you usually hear them before you see. Their piercing call carries easily across the water.
Although the colours are incredibly hard to mix, I adore painting Kingfishers as much as I love seeing them - which is just one of the reasons for there being two kingfishers in this smudge series. This is the diving kingfisher, the other is flying upwards.
This magnificent bird, rarely seen by those who do not live or spend time near water, is one the best examples of British wildlife.
