This colourful creature is usually sighted on the ground, where it likes to hunt for grubs, insects and other nourishing delights.
Often heard before it’s seen, due to its loud call - which sounds like it’s literally having a laugh.
I love to see green woodpeckers and always enjoy painting them. The rich colours and tones in their plumage are such fun to tackle in either oils or watercolours.
