The tiny wren might sometimes be mistaken for a mouse as it scuttles around the undergrowth looking for food, or cover from predators. Despite the diminutive size, wrens have a remarkably loud song. I was awakening to the sound of one at 4.30 am during my summer up in the Lincolnshire Wolds.
