Kingfisher amongst reeds original oil painting

£750.00

Original oil on board, set in a natural wood frame that can be painted a colour of your choice.
This painting is inspired by regular sightings of a particular kingfisher in a specific place on the River Witham in Lincolnshire, England.
I have spent a lot of time there, and have been fortunate enough to see him there many times.
The kingfisher is a beautiful bird that you’ll see near water, if you’re quick enough. They fly fast, often skimming just above the waterline at speed, like a little jet aircraft. You might hear them before you see them, they have a distinctive and piercing call that is designed to carry across water to let other Kingfishers know this is their territory.
This work depicts a male, the female of the species can be identified by a little dash of red ‘lipstick’ on that sword-like beak.
Kingfishers are not easy to paint, their iridescent metallic blue and bronze plumage is a challenge to mix. However, painting them always brings me joy.
