Although the house sparrow has declined dramatically over the last few decades, there are still enough of them visiting my garden to provide me with a constant and noisy stream of reference. This oil on linen painting depicts a handsome male bird, proud and in his prime. I do hope my garden continues to be abundant with house sparrows, because I hope to continue painting them.
